Gooseberry

While awake...

With sweat on the brow - part of the Easter Brunch has now been prepared and is resting until the morrow. In order to maintain at least some kind of Scandinavian air about it I made sure the chocolate cake has gooseberry jam in between the layers. Don't worry, I have tried it before and even young members of this country's population exlaimed they liked it (and they tend to be harsh critics) so I hope I will hear the same thing tomorrow.

A very elaborate quiche is regaining its composure on the kitchen counter, and lamb is bathing in spices throughout the moonlit night. Mimosas will put a smile on their faces and roasted potatoes and vegetables will mingle on the plates. Other delicacies have further promised to appear. Even though the day is a joyous one we'll be accompanied by eggs that have been deviled... but we love them so they are welcome.

Glad Påsk!

While awake...

Sadly it seems paper dictionaries are becoming more and more obscure. This dictionary became my possession in 1986 and it was one of the best Christmas gifts I have ever received. I carried it in my school bag for years, and tirelessly looked up every word I didn't understand or knew the full meaning of. Then came Internet and I no longer reached for it. First it was Webcrawler and then Google. Nowadays I rarely look up a word (even if I probably need to.) Mostly I do it to check for correct spelling, and within 5 seconds I usually confirm or deny my choice. I vividly remember how my English teachers for some reason would make it their mission to make sure we students pronounced words correctly - especially words with the buzzing "z-sound" versus the "s-sound." I even took a class in phonetics and how the tongue is/should be placed when different sounds are made! Now when English has become my primary language I no longer appreciate what I once loved. I absolutely loved the sound of English as a child. At the age of four I used to make up songs in English not knowing but a single word in English. I had heard of an English word. Dollar.

While awake...

Even though I have the patience of what some might consider unusual proportions, it seems to vanish in an instant when I am demanded to produce a quantity of work that must follow set rules and regulations. It doesn't further the inspiration to have to fight with the purpose of the task, and I find myself questioning each step. So I begin researching the depths of this type of work. Who came up with it? What evidence is there of its success and productivity? And most importantly; can I find this work already done, half-done, or alluded to so I wouldn't have to do it myself. Why reinvent the wheel? I find droves of information which I collect and decide to hold on to because it makes me feel better. Finally I figure out a way to adapt this nettle-bush of assignment into a format that I can handle. But it is time consuming and coffee must be consumed to maintain needed hyper-mode so that worktime will become as minimal as possible. I notice a repetitive pattern and take advantage of it. I absolutely detest having to perform tasks I don't even agree with in the first place.

Pink Scarf

It is pink and it is a scarf. Was it super fun to knit? No. Is it fluffy? Yes. Will I wear it? No. Will someone else wear it? Yes.
