While awake...

Maybe it was the stranger who walked up to me and asked me "Is that blood?" who convinced me to purchase the book. I didn't buy it that same day but instead the following (and under the influence of two vodka gimlets). I bought it and read it in two days. I'm nearly freaked out to admit/say that it's been 20 years since I've read a Stephen King book, but my teenage intuition took over and I digested the gore in two days. Cell. I recall the anger I felt when my high school teacher called it "kiosk literature," but I might finally be mature enough to recognize it for what it is. On the other hand I wouldn't mind one bit cashing in on some of that "kiosk literature" myself!

Oh, and I am still very much disappointed in the presidential election outcome... Next year's parliamentary election must simply turn out better!
While awake...

I am sitting on pins and needles!
What a close Finnish presidential election! Cannot wait to see what will happen! Cannot take another six years with Moomin Mamma in tow!

Edit: SIGH!! So close and yet so far away!

While awake...

Yeah, yeah, don't get spoiled. I might not write anything for a month (again).
I did however think it was time to share this valuable list of Finnish behavior in case any of you decided to stray over to the northern wilderness. Many (most?) of those things listed are actually true. I have now reached a point in my expatriate status where I no longer recognize the most famous names related to Finnish pop culture, TV or movies. I also notice, from those short and fractioned glimpses I get via the internet and my family and friends, that the Finnish culture has changed a lot in 10 years. A lot. I have so totally immersed myself in my new culture that I sometimes think of my past life as something that happened on a different planet. And I must focus before my old memory box open up to such a degree that I can remember what it really was like. Because I was someone else then. "The purpose of life is to do something that will live forever," reads the tea bag fortune. I never have regretted a day since I moved here. And/But thank God I grew up in Finland.

First impressions rule!

Elizabeth Bennet
You are Eliza Bennett from Pride and
Prejudice
! Yay, you! Perhaps the
brightest and best character in all of English
literature, you are intelligent, lively,
lovely-- in short, you are the best of company.
Your only foibles are that you stick with your
first impressions... and your family is quite
intolerable.

While awake...

Food porn really fascinates me.

That's also how I ended up finding Antarctica - my secret dream destination in addition to Iceland. I want to stand here!

Why do I like the colder regions you ask?

While awake...

I dream of...
• baking Olive Bread (the most divine of breads)
• visiting the U.K. with A this spring ('Bird and the Baby' anyone?)
• visiting Finland this summer (official heaven of mosquitos, childhood memories, and wonderful nature)
• a dream job (doing as little as possible for as much as possible)
• modest things mostly (liar!)
• a summer cottage in Maine

Gott Nytt År!
